The original track had a gentle melody and a distinctly Japanese atmosphere, but after replacing the koto and shakuhachi with all those chiptune beeps, the “Japanese” feel all but vanished—haha.
The melody now comes across as more simply playful than soothing. It really drove home how strongly timbre shapes the listener’s impression.
